Admittedly, I’d had a skinful before watching said film – a xmas party at the neighbours followed by guests at ours (I think I undercooked the beef a bit) – but it still made sense to me. It’s basically a Matrix wannabe movie. Sadly, it’s nowhere near as good as the Matrix, and not even as good as Dreamscape (1984) in terms of dream-related drama.
Maybe I’d nodded off during the best scenes, but for me Inception is full of stagey, hammy scenes that don’t go anywhere (no, it’s not clever and ironic, just badly plotted and written). Tonnes of meaningless exposition. Lots of shots of Leonardo DiCaprio in handsome profile or with furrowed brow (to signal he’s acting, you see) and not much in-between.
Obviously, I’ll need to watch it again to check my review isn’t completely unfair or inaccurate (not impossible), but for now I’m gonna give it a miserly 6/10 (bah, humbug!). Oh, you want to know the plot? Oh, just some bloke who nicks info from people’s heads (industrial espionage style) via their dreams. That’s it really.
