Sunshine is a Danny Boyle film, so you know it’s gonna have some intelligence behind it – it’s even worth watching more than once. A ship of humans are on a mission to deliver a bomb the size of Bognor into our cooling sun to jump-start it (the sun, that is, not Bognor) and restore summer holidays to the earth. Great characterisation, good moral dilemmas and a good plot. And, bizarrely, good acting from the likes of Cillian Murphy (Scarecrow in Batman) and Michelle Yo (Crouching Tiger, Flying Prawn). All the supporting cast turn in good efforts too.
At first, I wasn’t sure if the horror elements of the film were to my liking, but I’ve decided they are cos they’re not gratuitous. They contribute to the plot and are essential to the god v. man debate at the heart of things. A must-see for scifi fans and anyone wanting to support British film. 8/10
