Did a signing in Waterstone’s Preston yesterday. Wow, haven’t seen a store that quiet in a long time. I guess everyone was at home watching Japanese nuclear power stations going up in flames.
Still, I met a few nice people: Holly, Liz, Kevin Burge, Matthew Dunn, Mary Clarke, and others (memory not what it once was). Sold 26 copies on the day, which I’ve gotta be happy with considering.
The performance of the Waterstone’s staff was very poor. No marketing material had been put out concerning the signing. Most of them refused to speak to me or make eye contact – and there was certainly no ‘thank you’ for the books I sold paying their wages that day. Bizarre. Still, I got a couple of cups of coffee – maybe that’s all authors should expect these days.
Next stop: Waterstone’s Leeds on Sat 19 March. Hurrah!
