So, the Russian singer was crying at the end of Eurovision last night. And well she might. Comrade Putin will not be best pleased with her failure (coming second). He will probably see her sent to Siberia… or have her shot (as he does with most of those who disappoint his crazed ambitions). More than that, the Russian singer allowed herself to be interviewed by Conchita of all things! The Russian singer has had nothing but flak online from her countrymen.
And the reprisals are likely to extend further. Many ex-Soviet Union countries were guilty of ‘breaking rank’ (to quote Graham Norton) during the voting. They declined to give mother Russia the full twelve points. Many gave a tactical score of 8 (hoping that would save them from invasion), and then gave Sweden the max.
Basically, the Russian-speaking voting bloc was far from united last night (no doubt because of Ukraine). Ergo, the Scandi voting bloc triumphed once more. Let’s face it, the Scandi voting bloc is nicer all round anyway… and less likely to park its tank on your front lawn. Rather, they will offer you some well-designed furniture or some such. I just wish the UK still had a voting bloc (or decent songs to enter).
