This 80s homage series is set in the context of the Cold War and mind-lab experiments. In a small American town, kids have been going missing. A local group of Goonies go in search of their missing friend. As ardent Dungeons&Dragons players, they are more open to the possibility of monsters being at large in the forests than are the adults of the town. I’ll leave it there before I start giving spoilers, but suffice it to say that there’s an alternate reality, dark government operatives and what seems to be magic involved. It’s brill. There are only eight episodes in this first series (Netflix), so things are never too drawn out. There’s great pacing, characterisation and acting throughout. And plenty of tension. Can’t wait for the next series. If you ever saw The Red Hand Gang as a kid, you’ll love this. 9 out of 10. Watch it.
